There's an all-text tutorial in the game, an in-duel tutorial, helpful hints that can be turned on, and the ability to pick up, inspect, and check additional details of every card played. Do you go on the offensive with your Giant Spider as soon as it's available or do you save it to defend? Do you utilize all your mana to summon new creatures at the start of a turn, or do you instead put it towards powering up your Shivan Dragon that's already on the board? Do you know what any of this means? Anyone unfamiliar with Magic should be pleased with how easy the XBLA game makes it to learn the basics of how everything works. You'll have creatures, spells, enchantments, and more at your disposal, all of which are activated by consuming mana, and which you use to bolster attacks and defend against incoming damage. ![]() ![]() The basic concept of the game is simple: attack your opponent until his life bar is depleted. While there are plenty of variables to consider in a game of Magic: The Gathering, and while a knowledge of every card that may or may not be in your opponent's deck is unquestionably to your advantage, there's still lots to enjoy about the pure sport of it, the see-saw back-and-forth, wildly shifting possibilities of a match. ![]()
